FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
The league is open to boys and girls aged 8–15. Teams are placed into divisions according to age and ability to ensure games are competitive and enjoyable. As a mixed league, teams can include both male and female players.
The league runs from 13 October to 15 December, featuring 9 rounds of league games followed by a finals week. The top two teams in each division will compete for the title, with each player on the winning team receiving a trophy. Teams that do not make the finals will still take part in a fun friendly match during the final week.
Absolutely! Players can register as single players, and we’ll place them in a team with others of similar age and ability. If your child would like to play with 2–3 friends, please register them as a single player and note that they wish to be in the same team. This helps us streamline the team creation process. While we will do our best to accommodate these requests, we cannot guarantee placement in the same team.
Playing in a 6-a-side league is a fast-paced, exciting way to improve your skills, fitness, and teamwork. With fewer players on the pitch, everyone gets more touches on the ball, more involvement in the game, and more opportunities to attack and defend. It’s perfect for building quick decision-making, ball control in tight spaces, and on-field communication – all while having fun in a social, supportive environment.
Teams are organised based on age and skill level to ensure games are competitive and enjoyable for all players. When completing the registration form, please provide as much detail as possible about skill level and whether the player currently plays for a club. For single player entries, we aim to create balanced teams by mixing skill levels where possible.
Each team can have up to 10 players. This allows flexibility for players who may miss a week due to school, family, or other commitments.
Players should wear:
Comfortable sports clothing (shorts, shirt, socks)
Your child will need to wear their team’s colour as a shirt or a matching kit where possible. This can be organised by the team manager once put into teams. If you’re already in a club, then we recommend wearing your club kit.
Shin pads (mandatory for safety, failure to wear shin pads will result in being unable to play)
Soccer boots or sneakers (no metal studs)
The Proper Player does not run league-specific team training. Training is entirely optional and may be organised by the team manager or individual players. Teams are welcome to arrange their own sessions outside of league fixtures. Players looking to maintain or improve their skills are encouraged to join our weekend soccer classes, which feature shooting practice, technical drills, and small-sided games.
There will be 4–5 pitches in use at all times. U9 games will generally kick off first, usually between 5:00 pm and 6:00 pm, followed by U11 matches. U13 and U15 games will typically be scheduled later in the evening, with all matches finished by 8:00 pm. Fixtures will be released 1 week before the league kicks off and teams are finalised.
